To begin, a Mill Test Report (MTR) in the world of sanitary process is a quality assurance document that documents the chemical and physical properties of the stainless steel (or other alloys) used in the fabrication of hygienic process components and equipment. MTRs go by a variety of names, including Certified Mill Test Report (CMTR), Mill Certification, or Metallurgical Test Report. When a heat (lot) of steel is generated at the mill, it is assayed. The results of that assay are recorded and an MTR is generated.

So if you are putting together sanitary process lines that don’t require BPE type surface finishes or merely require 304 stainless steel do have to use ASME PBE fittings if you want orbital welds? Often not. We have studied standard sanitary weld fittings and hope to bring some clarity as to their suitability to be orbitally welded.

Most of the off shelf ASME BPE fittings used in the biopharmaceutical industry are made from welded tubing. So if your fittings are made that way, why go to the expensive of buying seamless tube to connect to it?
